Personally, I think Gareth Bale isn't as good as everyone is making him out to be, saying he is the 3rd best player in the world currently behind Messi and Ronaldo, when overall I think there are plenty better players than him in the world of football currently. In my opinion the 5 best players in the world right now are Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Falcao and Xavi. Bale has had one great season, one good season the year before and half a good season before that, I just think he isn't as good as the company he is mentioned in right now and needs another season to prove he is the real deal.

Gareth bale is a great player but I agree with you that he's overrated. This is supported by the fact that he is even being compared to Cristiano Ronaldo when he was at United. How ridiculous?!

Exactly. He has never played for a top top club, to be considered one of the best players in the world you need to play well week in week out in the best competitions, Bale has had one season in the Champions League with Spurs.

I think Bale is an incredibly good player, but I'm not sure he's good enough to be labelled the third best player in the world. He's an outstanding player at Spurs, but he hasn't really done anything to merit being regarded as one of the best players alive. Time will tell if he's as amazing as he appears to be, or if it's a case of being a "big fish in a small pond". I definitely think he needs to prove himself more before warranting "best in the world" recognition.

Right now he is overrated but in the next two years he will become one of the best three players in the world. Additionally, I prefer Iniesta or Falcao in your list instead of ageing Xavi.

I think Bale might be a big fish in a small pond kind of player, if he does get this deal with Real Madrid then I think we fill discover he isn't as good as everyone seems to be thinking. Don't get me wrong, I think he has talent, but people are exaggerating it beyond belief.

Bit like when we sold Modric, not heard a word since really, good deal for us selling him for that much.

Gareth Bale made it look like without him Tottenham was useless. That's what makes a star. If one man is able to boost the morale of a team and steer then that person is likely to be rated highly. That's what Bale got. His departure to Spain, where all the big boys are will most likely prove to everyone that he's outclassed and the rankings will look quite different.

IMO, former Borussia Dortmund player "Gotze" is a better player than Bale.

I don't think Bale is over rated, if Real is willing to pay 100M for him, so that is his value. I think it is great for Tottenham if they sell him for that value. With 100M they can buy two or three starters for the team and make it better as if they had Bale. All the conversation about keeping him I think is just to get the higher value, Bale's head is in Madrid since Modric went there last season I'd say.

Bale has been groomed well at Tottenham. There is every reason to believe he will perform well wherever he is transferred. A winger who can score with the power he demonstrates is a rarity. I think it will show when he plays alongside Ronaldo and against Messi in big competitions.

Rating him among the big 3 or 5 is bound to attract debate. It may be a bit too early to rate him among the best, but I believe he will continue performing well. He is physically very strong and has got it in him to continue for a very long time without losing his potential.
