What Exactly Is The Problem With Serie A?

Except for the times Serie A teams have been in the media [positively] it's when they won the Champions League but all the rest of the stuff we hear. . .corruption, match-fixing, racism and all that is all bad.

Is there some reason the Italian Serie A is so backward [if we are to use average European standards] to gauge the Italians?

I think that probably it is a cultural thing, but for me worse than corruption (that exists in all leagues) is the very defensive style of play every Italian teams have, that really unappealing to me.

I watched an old Inter game when fat Ronaldo was playing for the team. I didn't see them as playing too defensively back then.

Of late I've never had an interest in the Italian league because of the negative media coverage they get. But seeing as you mention their style of play [is similar to Mourinho's;) ] unless an Italian team is playing against a team I support then I can't watch any of their matches.

Ah ah, right, Italians are similar to Mourinho, but Mourinho is Portuguese and wins most of the times. Apart from that, he's funny. :p

A team with Ronaldo or Napoli with Maradona could never be defensive teams... :)

So we can, safely make the assumption that there are hardly any great strikers in the Italian league at the present. I'm wondering how the Italians can stand such boring matches. They've got desensitized maybe?

The problem is corruption. In Italy the violence and mob related problems are still there and big sums of money can be obtained from football. If you have ever visited the cities in the south of Italy or Milan and Rome you would observe the level of corruption is through the roof and street gangs are ever present. Italy is going fast downhill.

So unless the Italians themselves change, sanctions from football governing bodies [against how the Italian league is run, how the players and football fans behave] won't make much difference, can they?

Makes me wonder why any player would want to play in such a seedy environment.

The league has tradition and 10 years ago team like AC Milan, Roma and Inter were some of the biggest in the world. Now the things have changed, and political and social problems destroyed this League, even more after the Economical global crisis started in 2008.

These days however, the problem is when a league becomes seedy then things don't get better any time soon. They get worse and when everyone has had enough of what's going on, they'll come together and find a solution to the problem.

I think it's to do with corruption. There's a lot of violence etc. happening in Italy all the time from street gangs and mobs and I feel as if there's some corruption going on between them.

I think the corruption is caused by people that are a part of the mob or would like to be. The mob has influenced the last 100 years in Italy so it's fair to say there are still a lot of powerful people in this country that have connections with La Cosa Nostra.

I do not really like Seria A because matches can sometimes be boring and predictable. I like Bundesliga, Premier League and La Liga which are far more interesting.

I think its to do with a lot of corruption at levels of the game and also, the fact that some of the players who used to convince people to love the league, either left or retired and then teams started to struggle in Europe such as Juve and AC milan.
