Luis Suarez bite: Uruguay striker banned for four months
World governing body Fifa have imposed a four-month world footballing ban on Uruguay striker Luis Suarez for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini.

The independent disciplinary committee imposed the suspension after finding the 27-year-old guilty of misconduct.

Suarez has also been banned for nine international matches, ruling him out of the rest of the World Cup.

The incident occurred during Tuesday's 2014 Fifa World Cup Group D game, which Uruguay won to qualify for the last 16.

Do you believe that Uruguay still can win the World Cup without Suárez?

I think this is way over the top with the bans. As someone who watches and reads about soccer daily, I think that there were way worse incidents that Fifa did not give any attention to but with this one, there was too much media involved. Like this is a joke how Fifa handles these things, I really hope for them to reduce the sentence after all the media dies down.

I think the punishment was way too soft. He bit someone, not for the first time but for the third time. If this had happened in the street it would be classed as assault and potentially prison time ( sorry to go over the top but its true). He should have been given a season long ban to actually show clamping down on some players who think they are above FIFA.

That's the longest they could ban him without ruining his entire career, even Chiellini said the ban is too much.
I'm sure he didn't think about being above FIFA in that moment, in my opinion four months and nine matches is a bit over the top for a bite that wasn't even deep (judging by the fact that it wasn't the purple color of blood around the edges)

Suarez got off way too easy. He is very lucky to still be playing soccer period. He is not setting a good example for young soccer players or soccer fans. Third time is a charm! Thank your lucky stars Suarez that you still have a career.

They should have ruined his season full stop, not his career. If it had been his first time then fair enough this ban would have been enough, but 3 times is too much and therefore action must be taken. What sort of example does it set to the younger generation that looks up to him?

I also think they if i player has been proved to have dived he should also be given a 3 match ban if there has been proved that there has been 100% no contact.

"After the impact … I lost my balance, making my body unstable and falling on top of my opponent"
"At that moment I hit my face against the player, leaving a small bruise on my cheek and a strong pain in my teeth"
That was part of the defense of Suárez. Seriously? That's pathetic, he should just admit his own mistake and apologize for what he did. But, I still think that the punishment was too severe.

I think his accuse deserved more of a ban because of how bad it was xD
But in all seriousness, he deserved at least a 6 month ban for me and the ban should of started at the beginning of the season, not from now as he will get away with only missing 9 games or so in the bpl.

I agree that FIFA's punishment wasn't harsh enough. Suarez has been biting players left and right but when he does it on the world stage then punishment meted should reflect the enormity of his barbarism on the pitch [because the whole world was watching]. It's Suarez and other violent players FIFA should make an example of so others elsewhere can learn to be civil to each other on the field.

I think a one year ban would have been the best punishment.

Well, I think Barcelona are not aware of saurez's behavioural problems. They are queueing up a big money transfer move for Saurez.

This is the third time that this has happened. This guy is a repeat offender who shows no remorse for his actions.I would have loved it had Chiellini knocked out his teeth with his elbow.he is a disgrace to the game.A longer ban would have been more appropriate.

Heh, I will second everybody now. Suarez is kind of an ***hole, really. We could easily compare him with Zidane's event, but even worse because he's continuously doing his malevolent actions! Stop it already! :)
