Less than two weeks for the start of the Portuguese League, my club Sporting doesn't seem to have a chance to fight for the title, we are having our worst economic crisis ever and Benfica and Porto are far ahead. I wonder what's the point in producing Figo, Ronaldo, Moutinho, Nani and so on and not being able to profit from it? Anyone following the Portuguese League?

I believe Sporting have enough character to revitalise/reinvigorate themselves mainly because a team that has produced countless number of world class talents doesn't just fall like that.

I agree with you, but when? Benfica and Porto have spent over €30M on their teams each and Sporting just 1 or €2M, so even when we have a lot of players from formation, it's just too big a difference. But we will see, 11 on each side!

It's not always about the money spent. Take Real Madrid as an example; they spent up to £1Bn in the last decade and guess what, they haven't won the champions league whereas teams that spend less than half have prevailed over them.

It's not always about the money, you are so right. I recall Porto from Mourinho winning UEFA cup and CL in consecutive years, quite an achievement. On the other hand, Real Madrid is facing what was called 2 years ago the best team in football history, Barcelona, so they are not alone in there. :)

Of course there will be anomalies but on the whole the richest teams aren't always the most successful. Instead the most successful teams are the teams with strong foundations and adequate managers/styles. Bayern Munich won the champions league last year. Why? Because they had the best style.

Yes, City has invested millions and with no major results, just one Premieship if I am not mistaken. Sporting now has a really competent coach, so I hope they can make a good season. The title I find it hard, but we never know...

Yes, never say never because stranger outcomes have resulted in football so just keep the faith. If you follow English football, did you ever believe for once that Wigan would win the Fa cup?

To be honest no, but I never had big faith on Mancini. Meanwhile yesterday Sporting beat Fiorentina 3-0 and is ready for the beginning of the Portuguese League next weekend.

I expect Sporting to do really well. They are probably my favourite Portuguese team having produced talents like ronaldo and nani.
