Personally, so far this world cup has simply been amazing. So many goals, plenty of controversy and of course the upsets!

Spain and England out (although the latter probably wasn't too much of an upset, if we are being perfectly honest with ourselves).

Iran holding Argentina to 0-0 for 91 minutes!

France playing like they are ready to go all the way despite being 50/1 at the start of the competition to win it. Now lurking around the 12/1 mark

And of course, Costa rica showing what pace, high pressing and pure grit can do for a team!

What are your thoughts on the world cup so far? Predictions? Best moments?

My best moment has definitely been watching the S.Korea vs Algeria game, it's on currently. What a spectacle! As for the eventual winner, I'm sticking to my pre-world cup prediction and sticking with Argentina. The winner always starts off slowly

Spain was a bit disappointing. But Costa Rica was unpredictable, took everyone by surprise!
For the winner, My guess would be Netherlands, I really enjoyed watching their games and I think they will win the World Cup.

I agree that Spain was really disappointing. I thought they would be out of the group stages guarantee. I also thought that Portugal would get out of the group stage but that USA upset really shook things. I think Germany might be the best contender for the world cup or maybe Netherlands. They both have very good squads and play very well and consistent. I hope the finals will be these two teams.

The Spanish team has been declining though over the past two seasons and i said from the start they would have a poor tournament. For me the most exciting team i have watched would be Columbia, and i would love to see them make the semis and i also wouldn't put it past them to do so. I am also italian and regarding there poor tournament id go with a similar opinion as i have on spain. Italian football is going through a transition phase at the moment which shown in the squad.

The group stage was exciting, but I'm even more excited to see the 16. I'm looking forward to Greece vs. Costa Rica, Brazil vs. Chile and Colombia vs. Uruguai

Which game in the group phase was the best? I vote for Uruguay 1 x 3 Costa Rica or England 1 x 2 Italia

Yea, I am waiting apprehensively for the Brazil game. At the moment I have around £200 tied up in bets due to having "no new winner" for the world cup as part of a multi just to get those odds a bit more juicy, but as the tournament progresses, I am starting to wonder if my bets are going to end up losing with the likes of Holland looking good, as well as Chile and Colombia.

I cannot imagine how disappointed I will be if I lose that money, and I have mentally already accepted them as won

I'm disappointed with the performance of Brazil against Chile. They played well in the first half of the match, besides some stupid mistakes (Like the goal of Chile. Seriously Hulk?). The second half was terrible to watch, Brazil couldn't keep the ball for more than two touches, had a disorganized team and the referee screwed in the second goal of Brazil. Chile almost scored a goal at the end of the second half, but luckily it hit the post.
As it should be, the penalties was the most tense part of the game, and the goalkeepers did a great job.

I thought it was so far from being a disappointing game! Even the second half as you described was far from that. Brazil might have been having problems keeping possession, but it was far from boring to watch as Chile were brilliant. I would agree, Brazil were not amazing but that is what winners do, they pull through even when they aren't playing brilliantly! I can see them pushing on and winning it after this close shave

Chile played well, with a tight marking, and took advantage of the opportunities when they had chance. But they were very ineffective when attacking, I can't remember a good opportunity besides that shot in the end of the second half.

What are you thoughts about Netherlands vs Mexico?
Two goals in 5 minutes. That was heartbreaking.

Chile was so unlucky to go out like Mexico.
Its sad to see teams play so well, just to go out due to some bad luck!
