Facing a five-year ban for match fixing by an official is a strong statement made by UEFA against corruption in sport. I would've preferred local officials to initiate legal proceedings against the official and hold them responsible rather than the whole team, but I think that does not work in the real world. A strong message needs to be given to all teams indulging in match fixing.
As far as being allowed to participate in to qualifying play-offs, there are several situations arising out of uncertainty.
For example,
1. The team is demoralized and gives in easily to the opposition affording them an easy three points. I consider it an involuntary action to match fixing episode.
2. It puts the other team in doldrums. Do they qualify with full points out of an inconsequential match or will they have to win all the other matches?
3. Following a rule after the draw is made put all teams in the pool in a difficult situation. Strategies and plans go haywire.
