Now that Van Persie has scored 2 goals to win the season beginning Community Shield for Man U, does that mean Rooney has a clear message he is not wanted.

David Moyes has a big smile with his first award with Manchester United. I sure would like Rooney to stay back, but the early results also mean he will be benched and will be the second choice for Moyer as well.

What are the chances of Rooney staying back or moving to another club with full blessings of Man U management?

Not yet. Rooney has been helpful to Man Untd and if only he could shove his ego behind his back, he'd still be very useful to the team.

At the present Man United will keep him will have him play start less often to see how the team would be without him. Then if they find out that they can do without him then they'll let him go during the next transfer window.

I would welcome a Man U retaining Rooney as a striker. If he can keep his ego under control, he'll be a potential star whether he comes out from the bench or starts a match. That makes him a potential force within a team he has excelled in.

He can stay back and push for glory in tandem with Van Persie.

Rooney is a very good player, but he has always been extremely overrated (due to English media) and hasn't looked happy at Man U for a while now. If he wants to go then he should, but if I was a Man U fan I would find it heartbreaking for him to go to a rival EPL club. Being an Arsenal fan I already had my heart torn apart by van Persie. Still not over that one to be honest.

It's strange though. I hate the amount of disloyalty in football these days, hated what happened last season with van, but now that the shoe could be on the other foot (with Suarez), I don't seem to feel bad at all. Even though Suarez is an, erm, not so nice guy. I guess I'm just a gigantic hypocrite :D

Football has more commercial value than ever before. Teams have managers and other professionals adept at the negotiating table. it is just a matter of booking a player for a certain period of time. Commitment is warranted from both sides. Injury to players should be discounted for in the contract, while indiscipline and lack of professionalism should invite penalty.

What happens is a player from one country moves out to enhance future prospects. He may have aspirations of playing the Champions Trophy. A local club may not allow him to do. He joins a foreign club. If he does not represent the club at the Champions Trophy within a reasonable period of time, he gets disoriented. He moves on. We are now witnessing a level of professionalism with players as young as 20-year-olds with backing of talent scouts and managers across frontiers. If they don't get what they need, they simply move on. It is a sore sight for fans.

I am quite sure Rooney will not leave, I think he can make the first team no problem if he gets his head into it, but even if he doesn't, who wouldn't like having Rooney on the bench? It is a long season and Manchester is in a lot of competitions, so I am not seeing MU letting him go.

After the first match against Swansea, it was quite apparent he will play alongside Van Persie but in a withdrawn position. He was brought in as a substitute, so it does not auger well for him. He will have to be benched for quite some time, unless Van Persie loses his touch or is down with injury.

I agree Rooney is too good a player to be ignored for long. The problem is he is not happy in his new role or at least showed it on the field against Swansea with a subdued performance. He refused to talk about his role in the team at an interview with the English team. I just hope he is motivated to perform the same way he has for so many seasons.

He has been behaving badly, so Moyes can't simply put him in the first team just like that. If he doesn't leave (what I am pretty sure will happen) he will be in the first team really fast.

Rooney seems to have reconciled to the fact he would not be leaving Mau U at least before the transfer window opens again. He has mellowed a bit and will have more going in his favor once he is in better spirits.
