Former Real Madrid striker Ronaldo has said that he hopes Los Blancos will win the Champions League trophy next season.

The Spanish capital club came close to reaching the tournament final in this campaign, but lost to Bayern Munich on penalties in the semi-final round.

"I hope the Champions League will come next year," he told Real Madrid TV. "Unfortunately, they could not win it this year.

"It is a shame what happened against Bayern, but a penalty shoot-out is a lottery."

Ronaldo, who retired from football in 2011, went on to add that he is impressed with Madrid's scoring record in La Liga, as Los Blancos scored 121 goals throughout the season to set a new record in the competition.

"They are improving more and more," the 35-year-old noted. "I am very happy for all the records they have broken, the goals they have scored, and they way they have played.

"I think they are doing very well, playing as a team. They are very strong, very solid, and next season will be fun to watch."
