AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has admitted that he would love the opportunity to coach Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, but insisted that he is just happy to have Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva within his ranks.
Allegri is thrilled that he still has Swedish striker Ibrahimovic and Brazilian defender Thiago Silva to rely upon, after a host of club legends left the club following Sunday's Serie A clash with Novara at San Siro.
When asked which players he dreams of coaching, the former Cagliari boss was hard-pressed for an answer.
"That’s difficult. Coaching champions like Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo is the dream, the desire of all," he told Rtl 102.5.
“But I have Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva and am lucky enough for this, without taking anything away from those who are leaving the club."
The Rossoneri bid a fond farewell to Alessandro Nesta, Filippo Inzaghi, Clarence Seedorf and Gennaro Gattuso, while Ibrahimovic has been linked with a move away from San Siro after failing to get his hands on a league winners' medal for the first time in nine years.
But Allegri insists that the 30-year-old Swede is going nowhere.
“He said he loves Milan and fortunately for us he has also said that he will remain at Milan," the 44-year-old coach added.
Allegri stated that he would now dearly love to find a striker with as keen an eye for goal as the departing Inzaghi, who enjoyed a fairytale send-off against Novara, netting the winning goal in the Rossoneri's 2-1 win with just eight minutes remaining.
“He has once again demonstrated his professionalism and above all I think he had a great chance to close his Milan spell and, I don’t know, maybe his career, in the best way possible," he mused.
“It was a beautiful gift, among other things it was a beautiful goal. Although this year he has had some injuries, he has a quality that is difficult to find in all other strikers in Italy and Europe.
“It is normal that when one is a player that you want to feel important, that you always want to play, and forever. On the other hand, there is a coach who is always a b*****d, who has to make choices.
“I thanked Inzaghi as I thanked everyone who played their last game for Milan, for what they gave me during these two years and because they helped me in the first year to win the Scudetto.”
Allegri arrived at San Siro from Cagliari in 2010 and led the club to the Serie A title in his first season at the helm.
